Thessaloniki WUDC 2016 Answers Concerns About Greek Economic Future

I asked a question. After some pretty nasty response initially, this is a thoughtful answer that I was originally seeking. Thank you.

From Facebook:

Thessaloniki WUDC 2016 Dear Alfred,

a) There is currently no plan for Greece to leave the Eurozone and/or default on its debts, as confirmed in numerous statements by the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund, as well as the Greek and other European governments. There is also no mechanism to eject a country from the Eurozone, meaning that Greece can only leave the Euro voluntarily. The current government and the vast majority of the population are strongly against that.

b) Speculation for a 'Grexit', or Greece leaving the Eurozone, has been published by tabloid newspapers in Europe since 2009 without materialising.

c) Even if Greece were to leave the Eurozone, it wouldn't also leave the European Union, limiting the impact of a 'Grexit' on issues such as travel or visas.

d) If Greece were to leave the Eurozone, the subsequent currency it would return to would be cheaper, meaning that we would be able to purchase more goods and services for your registration fees which would come to us in a 'hard' currency.

e) Regarding our current bank account with your deposits in it:
- Any potential capital flight controls do not affect the tournament as we are not paying suppliers abroad
- As a non-profit company, we would not be subject to a Cyprus-style 'bail-in'
- We are paying our suppliers already, so we are not sitting on a huge bank balance that could be potentially harmful.
- The independent judge funding is below the 100,000 euros that are guaranteed by the Hellenic Deposit and Investment Guarantee Fund.
- We are examining the possibility of setting up an alternative a bank account in another European country to cover all possibility.

f) We are in discussions with government officials, bankers in Greece and abroad and journalists on a daily basis following the story not just as organisers but also as businesspeople, civil society workers, activists and private sector employees that are of course interested in what's happening in Greece. It is our view, at the moment, that Greece is not about to leave the Euro.

We hope these cover your concerns.
