Debating about Space on Earth, AND debating about Space in Space

Space exploration and development are going to be a very important part of our future, and probably sooner than we think. It would be advisable to begin debating issues surrounding these developments. The arguments in such debates will likely mix the practical with principle and finances, making a luxurious conversation about our human future.

I was thinking about some topics and moved from the general and prior to later topics of interest and here is what I have:
  • Earth should substantially increase the exploration and development of outer space.
  • Exploration and development of outer space should be conducted by commercial enterprises and not governments.
  • Exploration and development of outer space should be conducted by international groups and not national governments.
  • Exploration and development of outer space should be conducted by human beings whenever possible and not by robots alone.
  • Planet Earth should not look forward to contact with extraterrestrial intelligence in the near future.
  • Human beings should not sign up for a one-way trip to Mars.
  • Exploration and development of outer space should follow the prime directive and never interfere with sentient life that is less developed.
  • It is time to adopt a program to develop and establish a human base on the Moon.
  • It is time to develop and establish a program for human exploration of Mars.
Currently the World Debate Institute is working with Space Services, Inc.  and is seeking additional partners for a project dealing with debates about space but held here on the ground.

WDI is currently planning the launch of a debate module into space on a future mission and thus take debates about space onto space. Full details will be available when the launch is about a year away. Partnership will be with the space vehicle Sunjammer [http://www.sunjammermission.com/] which will also be protecting the planet from solar storms that disrupt and destroy electrical grids and electronic equipment.
