In this edition of the Great Debaters we shout out everyone who makes our Saturday debate tournaments possible!  Since the first weekend of October we have had debate tournaments and workshops EVERY Saturday. Over 1000 NYC youth have participated in at least one debate tournament, hundreds of New York City adults have volunteered at Saturday debate tournaments, and a huge shout out to all the teachers, coaches, parents and staff that make each tournament possible. There is nothing more inspirational than to visit a debate tournament on a Saturday and observe hundreds of NYC youth engaged in debates on topics from global economics to domestic politics. As school teacher and debate coach, Curt Stedron stated, "Anyone who bemoans the state of public education need only spend a weekend at a high school speech and debate tournament to have their faith restored."  Thank you everyone for supporting another historical week for  New York City debaters! This tournament has now become our largest tournament and so we will be splitting into two locations. ACORN HS will be hosting the Policy Debate Tournament and Sunset Park HS will be hosting the public forum and parliamentary tournament. Click here for tournament information!  High School Policy Debate Tournament (ACORN HS, Brooklyn) Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance. High School Public Forum Debate Tournament (Sunset Park HS, Brooklyn) Resolved: In response to the current crisis, a government should prioritize the humanitarian needs of refugees over its national interests. This Saturday, we were honored by award winning debater, Eli Jacobs who presented a workshop on impact calculation and weighing in debate rounds. Giordano Middle School 45, for hosting our middle school public forum debate tournament for the Bronx Debate League! We had over 50 debate teams and over 100 students participate in the tournament! Thank you to all the judges, volunteers, staff, teachers, alumni, parents and everyone for making this tournament possible. We were so proud of our middle school students who debate the high school public forum debate topic at each tournament.
