Sky1 to host teen debating tournament

July 29, 2014

Sky1 has commissioned a new series which will see teens from across the country take part in a debating tournament.

The Kings and Queens of Speech is a new eight-part series that will see children from across the UK take part in debate competition. The series will be teaming up with charity Debate Mate, a revolutionary educational charity that works with 200 schools nationwide and has helped over 4,000 disadvantaged young people to find their voice through debate.

The aim through the debating tournament is to transform the teenagers into confident young adults. The winning teams from each school will then be brought together for the first time, competing head to head in a debating competition in front of a panel of judges. The finalists compete in a knockout tournament until one team are crowned the Kings & Queens of Speech 2014.

Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky1 and one of the commissioners of the programme said: “The Kings & Queens of Speech will be a fresh new addition to Sky 1s emerging slate of 8pm programming – it is going to thrill, move and energise Sky 1 customers across the generations”

The new series is set to air on Sky1 next year.
